I say that you need to be praised or put down. Both will set you on fire. I am on fire now with this above comment. Sometimes it's nice to hear encouragement and have it inspire you, but on the flip side, like myself, tell me I can't do something and I will say "watch me".
Very mean words from someone who was your mentor. At least he's taught you to never be what he is. A TRUE martial artist is humble and kind. You've already mastered that. You students speak very highly of you, but not of your old mentor.
